Don’t hesitate; this product is wonderful
I was a little hesitant about buying this product after reading some of the reviews, but this thing has changed my life. It’s not as delicate as people are saying, as long as you take care of it properly. Here are some things I’ve found that helps me maximize this product and the flavor of my coffee:1) Heat up the carafe and your mug before you start brewing. Pour some of your hot water into both container, making sure you warm up the sides as well. This helps keep your coffee warm, which releases the aromas and flavors that you’re looking for. When you start with a cold carafe and pour it into a cold mug, you keep losing heat and your coffee will get cold before it hits your lips.2) I think the reason people see this device as delicate is because they put it in their sink to clean later, so it bumps and clinks against other dishes. Just rinse this bad boy immediately after use and you’ll be fine. I don’t even take soap to it; I just rinse it really well and let it air dry. What I’ve found by doing this is that the coffee tastes better and better each time. Those coffee oils are no joke. I think it’s like the cast iron skillet concept. I’m obviously going to wash this with soap after awhile, but so far this has been key to delicious flavor. When you rinse your carafe, make sure you use hot/warm water so you don’t crack the glass. Going from hot to cold is what ruins and breaks glass.3) Brewing coffee like this is not for the busy person rushing out in the morning for work. You probably already know that, but I feel like its necessary to mention. I’ll usually pour water until I don’t see a crema anymore. I’ve found that you can speed up the process a little if you pick up the filter just over the rim and gently shake it from side to side to encourage the water to go through. The water will resist going down by the end of the process, so this seems to help. It also helps getting all the grinds to the bottom of the filter so it’s cleaner when you throw the grinds away (it hits the garbage in one chunk rather than splatter all over the place).4) I’m still playing around with the best grind size. What I’ve found is grinding your beans to different sizes and combining it all makes the best combination. So I’ll grind my beans to regular drip coffee, cone, and espresso, and combine all the sizes. This helps with the water going through and makes for a great flavor profile.Hope this helps! I highly recommend this product; don’t be afraid of coming over to the pour over side! Your coffee will be more delicious than you ever expect and you’ll never want to drink coffee any other way again!

Camp or every day coffee
I didnât buy this to camp with. I donât camp. I do make coffee though!Basically, Iâve used a stainless pour over coffee maker for at least 15 years. I love the system. What I didnât love was the need for a paper filter (yes, those other pour over systems require filters or they clog and stop working). I also got tired of my coffee getting cold because i rarely get to just sit through an entire cup of coffee in the morning. Enter Stanley.First off, this is quality stuff. Fine made cup and pour over filtration. Beautiful stuff. You do want to learn how to make good coffee in this or youâre going to be disappointed. No matter if you use a regular tea kettle or one with a gooseneck (more on that), pour slowly. Basically just slowly wet the grounds with the first pour. Follow that slow pour throughout to as not to agitate the grounds anymore than you have to. It leaves less sludge in the bottom of your coffee in the end. If you can afford a gooseneck kettle, get one. It makes the process so much easier with a gentle stream of water.I basically do not put the cover on the cup immediately unless I need to leave it to do something else before that first sip. Itâs just too hot and you will burn your lips. I do put the lid on when it starts to cool and it really does keep coffee at a good temp for plenty of time to enjoy. Not hours, but long enough to not end up drinking cold coffee. The plus to having a paper filter is that itâs easy to dispose of. The downside to a paper filter is cost and waste. Youâll learn to avoid the little sludge left at the bottom quickly enough and realize that it actually makes your coffee better in a subtle way. This reminds me of a camp percolator coffee pot. It basically makes the same kind of coffee, sludge and all and uses the same principle idea of hot water moving slowly through coffee grounds.Note: Do not use fine ground coffee. Bad! 🙁

plastic filter base is a no
Easy to use, makes a great cup of coffee. I got it because I drink only one cup per day and this is perfect. I also got the Stanley stainless steel percolator pot just to heat water in. Yâall should steer clear of heating water in aluminum pots, not healthy. Only thing that would make this single cup device better would be if the screw in base for the filter were made of stainless as well and not plastic. I was looking for something with zero plastic. The filter is stainless but the base it goes into is plastic. Pouring boiling water through plastic is NOT healthy long term.

Defective. Not insulating
Have used it for a month now. It looks good however my coffee doesn’t stay hot. The mug does not seem to have an insulated vacuum. I opened a warranty claim on Stanley’s website. Let’s see what they can do. Hope I got a defective one.

Nice pour over set
Pros: Easy to use and clean, just throw in the dishwasher. Looks nice with the matte finish.Cons: Strainer not fine enough, some coffee grounds still go through. A bit bulky.
