Way Too Much Fun
I first got turned onto Waldo books while in college. I was working at a small bookstore, and spied a paperback of Where’s Waldo? in Hollywood. I’ve had it all these years, but recently brought it out of the basement for my 7 year old son. He was thrilled with that book, so I got him Where’s Waldo?: The Wonder Book in hardback for Christmas.While the Hollywood book is difficult, The Wonder Book also has some difficult scenes! In one, I STILL haven’t found Wizard Whitebeard. Arggh!Martin Handford is the creator of the Where’s Waldo? books, which features elaborately detailed scenes, hidden objects, and visual puns. The reclusive, bespectaled author works fervently for EIGHT WEEKS for EACH of the 2-page spreads on these books. This means that the Where’s Waldo Wonder Book took him 1.8 years to create! Amazing!My son and I love to pore over the pages–not only looking for Waldo, Wenda, Wizard Whitebeard, Odlaw, and Woof–but also other clues. For example, Wenda always loses a camera, Woof a bone, the Wizard a scroll, and so on. BUT, at the end of the book, there are TWO pages of checklists for other things to find in EACH of the visual puzzles! Some are quite hard to find. For example, a clown follows Waldo and his friends all through the end of the book. One of the challenges is to find the scene in the book where the clown changes the color of his hat band.The creative scenes you’ll find in the Wonder Book include:*Once Upon a Page*Clown Town*The Fantastic Flower Garden*The Odlaw Swamp*The Might Fruit Fright*The Corridors of Time*The Game of Games*The Battle of the Bands*Toys! A Big Christmas and Birthday Hit!
I purchased several versions of the Whereâs Waldo series for my grandson (he recently turned 6) for Christmas and birthday recently. I wanted something that didnât involve electronics that he could do alone or with others. He absolutely loves the books! Theyâre perfect for days when the weatherâs bad, or heâs winding down a busy day. And Iâm happy to see that heâs enjoying the variety of alternative activities provided in the books-heâs constantly coming up with activity variations of his own. Great fun for the whole family!

I remembered these books from when I was a child and our son had never used them before so we wanted to give one to him and it occupied him for a long time. It is a good activity for quiet time and it got his brain turning as he focused on finding Waldo.

Bought for my so man for a long car ride and he loves it, heâs actually pretty good at finding Waldo. My two year also likes looking at it. My husband has enjoyed finding Waldo too. Pretty much the whole family has liked it.

Blast from the Past
I was excited to see this while browsing Amazon. I used to LOVE these when I was younger. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my two boys, in hopes it would keep them occupied for a good while (and out of my hair). My boys are 3 and 5. So far, they have yet to pick it up and really understand what this book is about. They are preoccupied with all of the other toys they received. I, on the other hand, have already found Waldo and friends in the first scene. Once things calm down a bit, I’ll explain to them how it works and see if they have the patience to try to find Waldo and friends. My husband mentioned this morning that I should have bought two of these books so that he could “challenge” me. That’s actually not a bad idea.
